Strategy & Procurement Influence
Ocean Strategy Overview
Connecting carrier performance with procurement choices and working-capital objectives.
Owned the analysis and methodology, led discussions between Management and Procurement, and shared the approach with the team.

The context
Before the Global Ocean Tender, the business wanted carrier selection to reflect actual transit-time performance. Faster, reliable transport could help reduce stock in transit and support working-capital objectives.
The approach
I analysed the ten largest lanes, compared carrier transit times by destination and modelled scenarios using faster-performing carriers.
I translated those scenarios into projected effects on transit time and working capital, giving Management and Procurement a common basis for discussion.
The initial exercise required approximately eight hours of manual analysis. I then integrated the missing sources and relationships into the Transportation Intelligence Hub.
The analysis became a daily, reusable view across lanes, available to the stakeholders involved in the tender and subsequent decisions.
What changed
- A recurring manual exercise became an automated capability available throughout the year.
- Transportation performance could inform procurement discussions alongside the business objective of reducing working capital.
- Scenario projections gave stakeholders a practical way to compare the potential working-capital effects of carrier choices.
Transportation data can help shape the next decision, as well as explain the last one.
