The context
Useful internal career-development tools existed, but many colleagues did not know how to use them to build a development plan. I saw an opportunity to make the process more accessible.
The approach
I created a practical session introducing career development, the tools available internally and how to use them to build a development plan.
I promoted the content beyond the initial audience. Requests followed from managers, HR and other entities in the group.
A notable session brought together approximately 60 people in an auditorium. This was a self-initiated programme, separate from the existing company onboarding modules I also delivered.
What changed
- Positive feedback and HR recognition showed that the content addressed a real need.
- Further invitations extended the sessions to other teams and entities within the group.
Career development deserves intention. I wanted colleagues to know what was available and feel able to use it.
